Sentai Jetman (Dubbed)
By Jeffrey Couto
The
Story
When I put the Jetman VCD in
my computer I wasn't sure about what to expect. I consider
Jetman the best of all the sentai shows produced by Toei thus
far and as such I thought that a dub of it could never live
up to the original source. I have heard much about this Jetman
dub, about how bad the voices were and how horrible the translation
was, but regardless I went into this with a very open mind.
How Good it it?
Friends I would be lying to you
if I didn't tell you that the rumors are indeed true, HOWEVER,
its not a complete loss either.
You see even though the acting
is not very good and the script is very flawed Jetman still
shines through. Once I started the VCD I watched the whole
thing even though some parts of it were indeed challenging
to view and for the most part I had fun with it and isn't
that one of the reasons why we watch these shows to begin
with? It was great to see the team's first couple of fights
even if the scenes were missing parts of the soundtrack and
the voice actors were unintelligibly reading out some of the
worst lines of all time.
Conclusion
So what's the verdict? I would
actually recommend these VCD's to fans interested in watching
older sentai in a way that can be understood (somewhat). This
could probably serve as a great way to introduce people to
the genre. I would also recommend this to collectors of sentai
toys and videos.
