Haran
Banjo
Haran Banjo is the second son of Scientist Haran
Souzo. The Elder Haran was a working on a project on Mars,
developing intelligent humanoid robots to help man explore
space. One of the first proto types was the robot who
would later become Don Salzer. Unfortunately for the Elder
Haran, his “mechanoids” proved too independent
and soon rebelled again its creators. Banjo’s mother
and elder brother were killed amidst the ensuing chaos.
Banjo stole the battle robot Daitaurn 3 which the Mechanoids
were building as a weapon against man and fled Mars, taking
with him the sentient computer he dubbed “Mother”.
Years later, when Don Salzer and his “Commanders”
began their plans of conquering Earth, Banjo reappeared
to destroy his father’s creations. Banjo
hated his father for creating the Mechanoids and thus
uses that rage to battle the various Commanders, whom
he encounters.
Banjo is a bit cocky and somewhat reckless.
When not battling the Mechanoids, Banjo plays the part
of a millionaire Playboy complete with a mansion, and
butler.
His faithful butler, Garrison Tokita
also helps him in his battles and is a seasoned pilot
and combatant.
Banjo’s other accomplice his sexy
blonde “Girl Friday”, Beautiful Tachibana.
While she is a bit of a tease and flirt, she is none-the-less
a valued partner.
InterPol Agent Sanjo Reika met up with
Banjo while investigating one of the first appearances
of the Mechanoids. Her partner was killed on this assignment
and thus Reika joined Banjo and Beauty in their fight.
Reika is an expert marksman and has aptitude for mechanics.
She is also an excellent pilot and well versed hand-to-hand
fighter.
The bratty little orphan Toppo is another
tag along who just so happened to meet up with Banjo
on one of his assignments. He never ceases to cause
trouble for the gang especially Beauty and Reika.

Daitaurn
Three’s most power weapon/special attack is the
combination, “Sun Attack/Daitaurn Crash”.
When activated, Daitaurn Three’s
head piece would gather and absorb all available solar
energy. Once absorbed Daitaurn Three would focus and
release the accumulated solar energy as a beam weapon.
The energy would usually hit the enemy square in the
chest stunning them. At this moment Daitaurn three would
perform a high flying kick and drive himself straight
through the Meganoid’s body, literally punching
a “gigantic crater hole” through the Meganoid’s
body. Suffice to say no Meganoid can survive this brutal
final attack.
Daitaurn Three was originally created
by the Mechanoids as the ultimate weapon against human
kind. It was built using a special gold metal found
only on Mars.
Daitaurn Three was modified to be able
to transform into two distinct fighting vehicles, the
fighter jet “Dai-Fighter” and the heavy
armored tank “Dai-Tank”.
Banjo preferred transportation of choice
is his super Police Car the “Mach Patrol”.
This vehicle has a jet fighter mode called the “Mach
Attacker”. Banjo uses the “Mach Attacker”
to synch up with Daitaurn Three. |

The
Mechanoids
Originally built to assist humans in their efforts in
space exploration, the Mechanoids eventually rebelled
and reprogrammed themselves to destroy human kind. The
Mechanoids are humanoid in appearance and were programmed
to be superior to humans in everyway (strength, speed,
intelligence). They are experts in firearms and are incredibly
vicious in battle. The Mechanoids are lead by the prototype
calling itself Don Salzer. He is aided by two advanced
Mechanoids, the female Korosu (“Kill” in Japanese)
and the male Neros. Don Salzer
has also created an elite group of Mechanoids, he dubs
“Commanders”. These “Commanders”
are advanced Mechanoids who are able to blend effortlessly
into human society. Many of them can pass as almost
human. They also have one other special ability that
stands them out from other Mechanoids.
When energized by specialized equipment,
these “Commanders” can enlarge themselves
to several feet becoming what is called “MegaNoids”.
The “MegaNoids” are gigantic humanoid robots/androids
who have various enhanced abilities and weapons built
into their bodies. They serve as the weapons of destruction
for Don Salzer. |

Sawatobi), Amano Jaku (High School Kimengumi), and Formosa
Cheryl (Ideon).
Toda Keiko was the voice behind the
character of Matilda in “Gundam”. Her most
memorable roles have been as the voice of Superhero
Anpan Man in “Anpan Man” and as the beautiful
thief Kisugi Hitomi in “Cat’s Eye”.
Toda also portrayed such diverse characters as Rosa

and Aroma (Dorvac).
Ginga Banjo is another Gundam Voice

(Escaflowne), Chico Vente (Dougram), Gilhard Mesh (Borgman),
Temp Sharon (Xabungle), Ramen Man (Kinniku Man), Mafu
Macumiton (L-Gaim), Rochina (Votoms), and Alan (DanCougar).
Tomino Yoshiyuki is one of the most
prolific creators in Japanese Anime. Some of his earlier
works included “Brave Raideen” and “Muteki
Chojin Zambot Three”. After Daitaurn Three, Tomino
would go on to create the seminal series “Kido
Senshi Gundam [Mobile Suit Gundam]”. As part of
the Sunrise Animation Group, Tomino would also produce
such works as “Ideon”, “Xabungle”
and “Dunbine”. Tomino’s most recent
works include “Brain Powered” and “Turn
A Gundam”.
The story bears some resemblance to
the Tatsunoko Pro Anime “Jinzo Ningen Cassharn
(1973)” which also told the story of a renegade
robot creation (BK-1) who rebelled against his creator
and then sought to take over the world. Like Banjo,
hero Higashi Tetsuya seeks to destroy the creations
of his father and save the world from robotic domination.
There are other similarities as well
to the recent anime “Big O”.
Daitaurn Three incorporates elements
from the “James Bond” Series and was a bit
more light-hearted and comical in approach compared
to Tomino’s previous creation Zambot Three.
