Kamen Machineman (All
Song Review)
Kage
Introduction
1984 saw many things. It saw Bioman, Shaider, Ultraman
Zoffy, Kamen Rider ZX and....um....Machineman? What about
1985? Changeman, Juspion and...Bycrosser? What the? Forgotten
shows need love too. With all forgotten shows come forgotten
songs. Here i'll review some of these lost wonders used
in a show with Shotaro Ishinomori's influence. So they should
be good, right?? Let's see.
CD Review
In a mess of various releases, this album has yet to be
released in it's entirety on CD. First released in 1984
on Vinyl, it hasn't been heard much since. In the early
90s, three songs were released on a 1984 TV compilation
CD. Again, in August of 2003 seven songs were released in
a 4-disc Tokusatsu Boxed CD set. Collectors quickly snapped
up this set and it went sold out days after it's release.
Will these songs ever be heard? Will this album ever be
re-released in digital quality? Luckily, I have these songs
to review! So here it is, in it's original tracklist. Seiun
Kamen Machineman Hit Songs. 3 Machine Dolphins out of 5.
01. Seiun Kamen
Machineman
>>Series opening song. This was done way back when
Mojo was the voice of Tokusatsu. Ultimately, this was the
end of his reign as he disappeared until 2001's Gaoranger.
This song doesn't sound like much when you listen to it
alone. It matches the Opening sequence of the show very
nicely though. The song itself is great! The lack of a guitar
forces you to listen to the brass.
02. Denkou Action
Machineman
>>Action song. Handled very nicely by Mojo. I can't
help thinking of "Go go! Dynarobo" when I hear
this song though. A close reminder. This song is easy to
enjoy, it's not hard hitting but an obvious action track.
03. Ooni Naru Hito
Machineman
>>Disco. I like this
song. Carries a very nice beat. There really isn't much
to this song. Just think...Machineman Disco.
04. Uchuu Kara Kita
Daigakusei <LP Only>
>> From the beginning, this song will have you confused.
You'll think you just walked into an old West Bar. Then
the lyrics hit. It's hard to tolerate the voice. Just ignore
it, the song will be over soon. Koorogi '73 did their usual
background vocals. Try and focus in on them.
05. Ball Boy no
uta
>> Everyone's favourite Tokusatsu baseball! Unless
you like Red Bickies... This is no non-talking baseball
though. Machiko Soga provides a voice for Ball Boy and also
sings this song! Fun little song. Some parts are a little
out there. I like this song. Much lighter tone than "Dolla!
Majou Bandora no theme", which is Machiko Soga's last
song.
06. Oh! Child
>>Probably my personal favourite Machineman song.
From the beginning, it reminds me of the Sunvulcan song
"Yume no Tsubasa o" (which was featured in Gaoranger
vs. Super Sentai). This song is very catchy and memorable.
Very nicely placed mid-album. Balancing out things.
07. Fighting Explosion
(Instrumental) <LP Only>
>> Instrumental track, but i'll review it anyway.
Not much to this song. The title really does say all. Allthough
at times it does seem to lack a little. Cool little track.
08. Hashire! Dolphin
<LP Only>
>> The beginning of the song is cool. The song takes
off. Upbeat and to the point. They must say Dolphin atleast
two dozen times in the song. For some reason, Koorogi '73's
vocals stick out moreso than usual.
09. Bokura no Machineman
>> This song is great from the start. Fancy guitars
you'd never hear after 1984. Are the kids really necessary
in the song? It'd be so much better if they weren't there.
In any case, great song. Nice way to end things. Nice mellow
tune.
04. Ore no na wa
Machineman
>> Series ending song. Nice mellow song. Matches very
nicely with the end credit sequence. This song is almost
sad in a way. Nice use of horns. Just like the opening song,
very much lacking of guitars. Great way to end one of the
most forgotten modern series...
