Flashman Complete Song Collection
Nippon Columbia - 2004 (COCC-13920)
Kage

Introduction

Flashman was definitely unique. Though Bioman also sported the big helmets, I think Flashman will always be remembered for their oddballery just a little bit more. We all know that music has changed, and it will change as long as both time and music exist. Though they may share the big helmet and "Sentai-less name" theme with Bioman, I can assure that the Songs are something on their own. (Sheesh, even Takayuki Miyauchi did songs for both series...not to mention the same colour scheme is in play).

Choshinsei Flashman

Flashman has a song collection much different from Changeman and much different from Maskman. I guess we can say this was a year of transition. The between area for styles of music. Disco was evolving for the last time before it died a sudden death. Flashman was still a way of getting the last use out of your leisure suit while also doing aerobics in your spandex on your time off. 4/5

CD Review

01. Choshinsei Flashman

>>Many will agree that this is a fine song to open up this series to. The music is upbeat and catchy like a jingle. It has some nice action rings to it. Most of all, it's something that really can't get old really fast. To me, this song sounds as fresh as it did eighteen years ago when I first heard it. A true action song.

02. Atsui Heart no Spectrum

>>A very quick way to get things started. The song is upbeat and after a little introduction moves right into the spitfire lyrics. The fake drum is a little irritating, but it was definitely in style in 1986 so it's just one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time I suppose. Regardless, this is definitely a workout song if i've heard any.

03. Kagayake! Flashking

>>Takayuki Miyauchi's second Sentai Robot song. He must've done something right with Biorobo to be brought back to carry the torch of the now hot property Sentai Robot songs. This song is very upbeat, complete with fake drums. He just may say "Flash" a little too much, but we can't hold that against him since that is the name of the series at hand. This is definitely one of the better Robot songs for Super Sentai.

04. Body Action Dance Janai wa yo

>>This song is odd but much enjoyed. The beat is low, danceable, but kind of low-key at the same time. It may not be an all out dance song, but it's still fun. I like this song alot for it's funkiness.

05. Beat wo Awasete Imasugu ni

>>A hard song to really describe. Yes, it's subtly a disco song with a little bit of a samba/salsa-ish flavour. It may be hard to describe, but it's an easy song to enjoy. Red! Blue! Green! Yellow! Pink! FLASHMAN!

06. Flashman Damashii

>>These jazzy, but upbeat songs seemed to be a hot item in the mid-80s. This song is ok, but rather weak. The echoed parts are pretty cool, but the song is flat. If it weren't for the cool little bridge, this song wouldn't be getting a good review.

07. Boku wa Magu

>>Annoying. The fake drums, to me, are the most annoying part. I could careless about the vocals and the little computer sound effects. The thing about making songs upbeat at all costs in the 80s was getting out of hand. This song is a true example.

08. Flashman no Chikai

>>This song is rather mellow, but fun. The smooth vocals carry this song across. It is a little out of place when he screams "Flashman!" but the song really doesn't suffer as a result.

09. Action No.1

>>Disco. The fake drums appear, but briefly. This song is pretty cool for what it is. Just a big chunk of music with some chanting and a few chunks of lyrics. For awhile this was my favourite Flashman song. It still may be.

10. Fighting Pose, Flashman

>>Series ending song. It's a good song in it's own right. I don't really think much of it as an ending song though. It has an underlying jazzy theme to it, while it really lies in the vocals. The music isn't great but it is catchy.

11. Heart wa Hibana sa Flashman

>>Fast. Again with the fake drums! This is the last song though... This song is an unrelenting upbeat song. It's a good action song, despite not really being stop. It's just speedy. I'm sure you'll agree if you've heard it.

12. Action No.1 (Disco Version)

>>Same as the other version, except the "chunks of lyrics" have been replaced with a cheesey piano instrumental.

13. Choshinsei Flashman (Karaoke)

14. Kagayake! Flashking (Karaoke)

15. Body Action Dance Janai wa yo (Karaoke)
